Love, Joy and peace - true and counterfeit!

In addition to counterfeit currency, there are many counterfeit, to branded products in the market.
Counterfeit products are cheaper but not of good quality and do not last long.
There are also counterfeit love, joy and peace this world offers that compete with a life of true and lasting love, joy and peace that God offers each one of us.
Like all counterfeits, these come easy and cheap and many people go for them. Not only are they short-lived but they also lead us in the path to destruction.
True love, joy and peace come from God through Jesus Christ, Whose birth is the reason of our Christ- mas celebration.
Obtaining this life of love, joy and peace costs us everything of our 'self' that is sinful and which keeps us out of a close relationship with God through The Lord Jesus. It doesn't come easy either, unlike the counterfeit product. We need to diligently seek it, sorrowfully repent of our sins and determine to walk in the path of obedience to God. The reward is great and well worth the cost. You get :-
                                    immeasurable love that passes knowledge
joy unspeakable and full of glory
                                          peace that passes understanding, besides
eternal life of bliss with God in heaven!!

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV)
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

PAY THE COST!
                            GO FOR THE BEST!!
                                                                YOU WILL BE BLESSED!!!

John 3:16 (NKJV)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Luke 2:10-11 (NKJV)
Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:13-14 (NKJV)
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

May you experience, this CHRISTMAS,
as never before, the true, Love, Joy and
Peace of JESUS the Saviour! Be Blessed!!

Trick or Treat!

Tricks can be fun when played on others. Most people at the receiving end also enjoy the fun.
Tricks involve secrets, hidden things and actions and lies.
It is not fun when we fall victim to tricks of people who play us out on money, purchases, precious time, health or relationships.

There are serious tricks the enemy of our souls plays on us that affect our course of  life on earth and our eternal destiny. He is called 'The father of lies.' His goal is to deceive us by making us believe a lie. He desires to keep us from knowing the truth because the truth makes us free. Through trickery he keeps us from Jesus because Jesus is the Truth. He keeps us walking in darkness to make us stumble and fall. He hates the light because it exposes the evil works of darkness. Jesus Christ lived on the earth as 'The Light Of The World.' Now, those who believe in Jesus reflect His light in this world of darkness.

A careful observation would unravel most tricks. Diligent study of the word of God through the revelation of God's Holy Spirit would expose the dirty tricks of the devil.

Let us beware of the tricks of the trickster and overcome them with God's wisdom!

Ephesians 4:17-24 (NKJV)
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
But you have not so learned Christ,
if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 5:8-14 (NKJV)
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."

Healthy Eating and Weight Control - 1

All of us as humans are spiritual beings. We possess a soul, and we live in a physical body.

Each part has needs that have to be fulfilled.

My body needs food to sustain life and to grow.

My spirit is revived by the Spirit of God - The Holy Spirit, Who anchors me to The Almighty God, The Giver Of Life.

Nourishment for my spirit is love that flows into my heart from God through Jesus, by The Holy Spirit.

My soul feeds on knowledge received by my mind.

Many people are preoccupied about their physical food, but fail to give thought to the well-being of their soul and spirit. They do not realize that their soul and spirit are more important than the body. Even after the death of the body, the soul and spirit live on, either in heaven or in hell.

There is plenty of food available in the world for the body and for the soul. Some are healthy and some are unhealthy. It is necessary to develop healthy eating habits and also to teach our children such habits. We need to be wise and exercise self-control in regard to the food we choose to fill our stomachs and the knowledge we choose to fill our minds. The former shapes our figure while the latter shapes our character!

A healthy person is one who is well-fed, spirit, soul and body. Such a person is contented and confident, focused, well-balanced and caring and loving. Most people feed their body but fail to feed their soul and spirit. They do not understand that the hunger they continue to feel, following a good meal, is that of the soul and spirit. In trying to satisfy this hunger and thirst, which is very real, they continue to feed themselves with physical food. While their body gets over-fed and overweight, their soul and spirit remain empty and hungry. The physical problem leads to a soul-problem, which is anxiety and depression! They seek medical help. Consult psychologists and psychiatrists. They go on strict diets and rigorously exercise in gymnasiums. They spend much time and money on all these which, if at all, only give symptomatic temporary relief ! The problem cannot be solved unless and until the need of the spirit and soul is met. There is no other way, but to face it!

Are you in such a situation? Recognize and confess your spiritual need of the Saviour. God is waiting to pour His love into your heart through The Lord Jesus. When The Holy Spirit fills your heart, you will sense more fulfillment than that of a full stomach! The hunger of your soul can only be satiated by the word of God, which is The Holy Bible. Consequently you will find that your craving for excess food is alleviated. Nevertheless you will be able to enjoy good food as you eat with gratitude to God, the Giver of all good things! Thus you will enjoy life to the full!! May God so bless you!

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Romans 5:5 (NKJV)
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)
But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' "

Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)
Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

Job 23:12 (NKJV)
I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.

Psalms 103:5 (NKJV)
Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Matthew 6:31-33 (NKJV)
Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Only One Road!

Certain places have access by many roads while others can be reached by only one road.

There is only one way to reach God. The access road is called JESUS! He is the way. He is the only way to the Almighty God.

John 14:6 (NKJV)
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Have you ever tried the 'Maze Puzzle'? There seem to be many complex roads leading to the treasure. If you try starting off on them, you will find that all of them fall short of the access to the treasure except one. If you are smart, you will place the point of your pencil on the treasure and go backwards to find that only right way!

There are many religions, gods and goddesses and philosophies that we come across in life that show us many ways to live life at its best and promise access to the right destination. We have only one life to live and so we can't afford to make a mistake. we need to make the decision before it is too late. Which way is the right one? How do we know?

It is simple! Like the 'Maze Puzzle' we need to be smart and know which road starts from God - our eternal destination. JESUS, the only begotten Son of God, proceeded from the Father, and came down to this world. He became a man to get connected to mankind. Through JESUS, we are able to get connected to God! Thank God, JESUS has made a way for us and He has become the way!!

Philippians 2:5-11 (NKJV)
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Spiritual Warfare - 19

Receiving the Baton

Elisha wholeheartedly prepared to take up the challenge as Elijah’s mantle fell on him.

19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21 So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.
1 Kings 19:19-21 (NKJV)

As soon as the mantle fell on Elisha, he recognized God’s call. Then he personally made a firm decision to destroy the old yoke to take up the new. He immediately responded to his higher calling.

Has the mantle fallen on you? What is your response?

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)

Elisha endured through the period of training, by serving, learning and following Elijah. Elijah’s mantle, which started him off on his spiritual journey, became very precious to him. It kept him going as he focused on it and pressed toward the goal.

How about you?

13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV)

1 And it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they went down to Bethel.
2 Kings 2:1-2 (NKJV)

Elisha was determined to get hold of the mantle.

9 And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” 10 So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”
2 Kings 2:9-10 (NKJV)

The mantle of anointing should increase as it goes down the line, if there is an attitude of humility and perseverance.

When I was a little girl, I used to watch my mother play the organ. She learnt by herself to play, reading music. I have had much interest in music, and with perseverance gained basic skills in playing the keyboard over many years. When our son was about 8 years old, I taught him a few basic chords on the keyboard. He progressed very fast, and to our amazement, demonstrated confident ability to play music within a few months! The Lord impressed upon my heart that this was an answer to my prayer when I nursed him as an infant. I prayed that his fingers should always be used for God’s glory!

The first piece of music that The Lord enabled Preshan to compose with the help of his teacher was named ‘The Return of the Zephyr’. Zephyr means ‘A gentle breeze’. This helped me to realize and understand that this is the work of the Holy Spirit, returning to each generation in greater measure for His glory.

11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. 13 He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
2 Kings 2:11-13 (NKJV)

Elisha was spiritually minded and received a double portion of anointing from his master. Gehazi was carnally minded and received a curse.

Ministries entrusted to certain servants of God are quite often passed down to their own children, continuing with their family name.

21 “As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.”
Isaiah 59:21 (NKJV)

Yet it is necessary for us to realize that this is not like an earthly family business, where the motive would be, a name and profit for the family. When necessary, God intervenes to break that trend. Saul’s intent was to pass the crown to his son Jonathan, but God’s plan was different. God looks at the heart. He chooses for His kingdom work. All profit is for His kingdom. All glory goes to Him. The name of JESUS alone is to be exalted.

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV)

God’s kingdom values and criteria are very different to the earthly systems.

22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
Psalm 118:22-23 (NKJV)

Let us place our entire confidence in the Living God as we face the battle through our life on earth, knowing that His kingdom is eternally victorious!

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
Hebrews 12:28-19 (NKJV)

Passing on the Baton

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NKJV)

Imagine a baton relay. A servant of God has run and is almost finishing his course on Earth. The next in line has been observing him carefully. He desires to carry such anointing and more. He also learns from the shortfalls of his predecessor so that he can do it better. He humbly serves and learns from his master or (natural or spiritual) father. He must be careful not to focus on the father's weaknesses which would make it difficult for him to honor the father, but to lift up his eyes to focus on the spiritual calling and anointing GOD had placed on the father. The son should intercede for the father.

But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?" So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."
2 Kings 3:11

And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." So he said, You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so."
2 Kings 2:9-10

We see similarities in the passing on of baton of Elijah to Elisha, with John to JESUS.

So they answered him, "A hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist." And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite."
2 Kings 1:8

And John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Matthew 3:4

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.
Matthew 11:13-14

JESUS, being GOD in the flesh, humbled Himself to be baptized by John, to receive the mantle from the Father in Heaven!

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?" But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 3:13-17

Although John was the forerunner, he humbled himself and exalted CHRIST.

Humility and honor is very important

John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose."
John 1:26-27

There has to be closeness for the baton to be passed from one to the other. As the first runner slows down, ready to pass down the baton, the second runner starts running slowly, reaching for the baton. There has to be a coordinated slowing down and speeding up, respectively, for a smooth transition. There has to be a “letting go” from the one and a “getting hold of” from the other. When the one has finished, the second in line takes over to run his course. It calls for discipline of self and focus on the baton that is the kingdom work, in both.

If I am kingdom-minded, I will pass on the baton to my descendants knowing that the battle has to be won even after my time on earth. This comes in obedience to God’s command, “Be Fruitful and multiply.” My aim is not just to live a life of victory, making a name for myself, but to see an army of God marching in victory. This was not so with Absalom.

18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a pillar for himself, which is in the King’s Valley. For he said, “I have no son to keep my name in remembrance.” He called the pillar after his own name. And to this day it is called Absalom’s Monument.
2 Samuel 18:18 (NKJV)

Because Saul was selfish, he was envious of David. He put selfish interest before the kingdom interest. Even though David was more profitable for the kingdom, Saul was trying to kill him.

7 So the women sang as they danced, and said: "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands."
8 Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?"
9 So Saul eyed David from that day forward.
1 Samuel 18:7-9 (NKJV)

Elijah was willing to pass on a double portion of his anointing to Elisha.
The LORD JESUS desired that His disciples to greater things than He did.
What is my desire?
What is my reaction when those of the next generation serve the LORD better, bring more profit to the Kingdom and more glory to the LORD?

12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
John 14:12 (NKJV)

It is GOD Who puts in the succession plan for His Kingdom work. It is important that I accept and submit to His choice.

1 Then the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.
2 And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see,
3 and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the LORD where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down,
4 that the LORD called Samuel. And he answered, "Here I am!"
1 Samuel 3:1-4 (NKJV)

Our fore fathers, in the Old Testament, pronounced a blessing or a curse on each of their children before their death. This was inspired of The Lord and it came to pass. The leaders of God’s people gave clear instruction and encouragement to their successors as led by God. The Lord Jesus taught His disciples, set an example for them to follow, and blessed and commissioned them before He went up to the Father.

1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
2 Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJV)

21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 20:21-22 (NKJV)

50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.
Luke 24:50-51 (NKJV)

Let us diligently check our hearts to ensure that the baton of our ministry and mantle is passed on effectively to our natural and spiritual descendants through example, instruction and blessing. That is God’s plan for His kingdom. A Godly wife and mother who is an intercessor, facilitates the passing on of the baton from father to son. She would stand in the gap and intercede for the father’s heart to turn to the son and the son’s heart to turn to the father. An ungodly and carnally minded woman would hinder this process.

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. 6 And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.
Malachi 4:5-6 (NKJV)

Spiritual Warfare - 17

The Christian army – A Team

I cannot see the battle won, when I stand by myself. I have personal victory when The Lord is with me, for I am complete in Him. With Him, I can be all that He has planned me to be and I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.

In many situations, the Lord gives me a partner to work with. When God made Adam, He said that it was not good for man to be alone, and so He made Eve as a suitable helper for him. When Jesus sent the apostles out on mission, He sent them two by two. The apostle Paul went out on ministry together with Silas or Barnabas or John Mark or Luke.

Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor.  For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.  Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?  Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

If a relationship between two persons is built in The Lord, it is healthy and not easily broken.

Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”  So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.  Exodus 17:8-13

There is a team here, playing different roles, to defeat the enemy.

                                          Rod of God
                                            Moses
                            Aaron                        Hur

                                             Joshua
                                           The people

The Rod of God lifted up by Moses meant “ Jehovah Nissi”  The Lord is my banner.
Joshua couldn’t win without Moses holding up The rod of God, and Moses couldn’t hold up the rod of God without Aaron and Hur.
When God called Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he gathered together all the people and they worked next to each other and after each other. (Neh 3) Therefore the spiritual war is fought not only as a team at a given time but also as a baton relay where the mantle is passed on from person to person to continue the battle.

Rules for a team:-     1)  Play your role well.   2) Support and help others so that they may play their roles well.
3) Don’t play the role of another and don’t copy another and don’t hinder another.

God chooses a man to lead His army for a season.
We need to progress united as an army, all submitting to the Commander-in-Chief, Who is The Lord Jesus Christ. Stand or march promptly, at the orders of the Commander. When we are in the battle field, it is necessary to quickly obey the voice of the Holy Spirit, unquestioningly. While playing an electronic game, pressing the right key at the right time increases the score. Similarly, prompt acts of obedience to the Holy Spirit, is like pushing buttons that bring about big changes in the spiritual set up.

I made haste, and did not delay To keep Your commandments.  Psalm 119:60

Even when you are carrying a mobile phone, it may be turned off or you may be out of range to pick up the signals to be in touch with others. Similarly, it is necessary to be fine tuned and sensitive to the signals and voice of the Holy Spirit and others in the team when we are in the battle field.
The ultimate goal is, not just taking our stand, but gaining territory and possessing the land. This calls for a team effort and I am only responsible to play my part in my place during my life time. In doing this, I enter His rest, although I may not see the fulfillment of all the promises of victory. As I walk in obedience, I see some of God’s promises fulfilled. Others, I see through my eyes of faith, believing that He will fulfill with His hands what He promises with His mouth, in His time.
Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”  Genesis 15:12-16

Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the South, and the plain of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.  Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.  Deuteronomy 34:1-5

“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;  Acts 13:36
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.  John 19:30

In my day to day life, am I able to enter His rest? This is possible, if I only do what the Lord requires of me and not get entangled, meddling in others’ work and becoming a problem in the battle field.

Garbage truck!

I know at least two little boys who are very excited every Thursday morning. The cause of the excitement is interestingly the garbage truck!

I feel happy as I collect all the rubbish in our home - any old food, waste paper, garden waste and the dust from the vacuum cleaner - and dump all of it into the bin. I keep thanking God for the provision of effective disposal of garbage as I push the big bin out to the curb.
Like the little boys, I enjoy watching the truck pick up all the garbage down the road. I especially feel a relief when I see our household rubbish taken away by the truck.

Isn't it so in the spiritual realm as well? All of us are laden with all kinds of garbage such as anger, hurts, bitterness, strife, pride, stress, confusion and so on. When we are overwhelmed with these things, we unload and pour these onto others, scattering and spreading the garbage. It is no wonder that our world is so dirty!

Where are the garbage trucks and isn't there a spiritual garbage disposal system? Yes, there is! The good news is that it is available to all of us.Calvary is where ALL such rubbish is cleared. That is where the Holy, Pure Son of God was tortured and crucified as a criminal. He has paid for the disposal of ALL our sins and filthiness. His blood that poured out, is the most powerful sin-stain-remover.

You can come to Him now in faith and pour out all that is in your heart to Him. Just humbly ask the Lord JESUS to take away every sin and hurt. Speak to Him as you would speak to a loving father. He is right there with you. As you unload your he, you can have it filled with His love.

Once you are cleaned up, you can be a garbage truck - an intercessor - transporting the garbage of others to Calvary!

1 John 1:8-9 (NKJV)
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 5:1-5 (NKJV)
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Spiritual Warfare – A Ball Game

Imagine a ball game like basket ball, foot ball or net ball.
The two teams represent the two kingdoms of God and Satan respectively.
The ball is symbolic of the attitudes, words and actions passed around from person to person or through the media and so on.
The tools of the devil, pass around a dirty ball of lies, anger, jealousy etc.
The instruments of God only pass around the ball of love, truth and grace.
When a dirty ball reaches a person in the ‘Good Team’:-
He/she first takes it to the goal post of the cross of Christ.
The dirty ball is washed with the precious blood of the Lamb through intercession.
The cleaned up ball of forgiveness, grace and truth is then passed on.
The goal of the evil team is the devil, the father of lies and author of all evil, whose plan is to dirty the good team with his dirty ball and prevent it reaching the goal of the good team.
The goal of the good team is to make sure that every dirty ball is brought to the goal post of the cross of Christ, so that the clean ball which reflects the glory of God prevails!
Now, which team are you playing for and which team are you playing against?
Our heads (minds) are continuously bombarded with thoughts from what we see, hear and remember. As members of the ‘Good Team’, we need to process these carefully.

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:8-12

For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. 1 Peter 4:3-4

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:29-32

But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:7-8
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21

Fighting Methods

Even in the old testament, when God’s people faced their enemies, many victories were won through unconventional methods of fighting.
*    Sling and stone against the sword, spear and javelin of Goliath - seems rudimentary and old fashioned!
*          Trumpet, pitcher and torch against the midianite army with their camels without number – seems totally unrelated!
*                  A choir against the armies of AmmonMoab and Mount Seir – seems too spiritual and not practical!

Unquestioning obedience to the Lord when facing an enemy brings us to victory, even if the strategy may seem irrational and very different to the normal trend. In obedience to God, we need to use whatever tools and talents we may possess. When we follow our Commander –in-Chief, He fights for us and we find ourselves on victory side! This is the grace through which we overcome!!

Sling and stone – Spirit and word of God
One man full of faith is able to fearlessly stand against one big man and defeat him with one stone, bringing victory to God’s people.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:45-47

Trumpet, Empty Pitcher and Torch – Prayer, Selflessness and the Holy Spirit within us respectively
One army of prayerful, selfless Christians through whom the light of the love of God shines makes one powerful army flee.

Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers—they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing—and they cried, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!”  And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled.
Judges 7:20-21

Choir – singing praises to God, exalting Him.
A united choir singing in harmony (may have been 3 parts, soprano, tenor and bass!)  Disunited and broke up the threefold army. God dwells in the midst of the praises of His people and scatters the enemy. If God be for us, who can be against us?

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”  Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.  For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.   2 Chronicles 20:21-23

Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise in the assembly of saints.  Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.  Let them praise His name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.  For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.  Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds.  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand,  To execute vengeance on the nations, And punishments on the peoples;  To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron;  To execute on them the written judgment— This honor have all His saints. Praise the Lord!  Psalm 149

Marching in order – following the Commander-In-Chief

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.  Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”  But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”  Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  Matthew 16:21-24

We have decided to follow Jesus, who not only taught us, but Himself took up His cross and denied Himself. When we are not willing to lose our lives for His sake, we tend to overtake Him. Thus we become tools of Satan and an offense to Him.

Kingdom against kingdom

And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the multitudes marveled.  But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”  Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.  But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls.  If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say I cast out demons by Beelzebub.  And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.  But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.  When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace.  But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.  Luke 11:14-22

The demonic spirits of the kingdom of darkness keep people in bondage, but where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Jesus came to set people free from the oppression of the enemy. In the above instance the person was possessed by a demon and the manifestation of the bondage was muteness. He was totally under the control of the demon. Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, who is stronger than the unclean spirit, bound that spirit, cast it out of the man and set him free. The evidence of victory for the kingdom of God was that the man started speaking.
Jesus gives us the keys of the kingdom to bind such powers of darkness and set people free from the enemy’s bondage. We need to understand the spiritual dynamics of a person in bondage or oppression. We need to address the spirit or spirits controlling him or her. As we pray and speak under the authority of the Holy Spirit in us, demons will flee. There will be a physical sign of the spiritual release.

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.  “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’  And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.  Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”  Luke 11:23-26

Once a person is released from the kingdom of darkness, it is important that he becomes totally part of the kingdom of light. If I am not in the kingdom of darkness, but not wholly following and serving the Lord, I would be a hindrance to the progress of God’s kingdom. When the unclean spirit leaves, the Holy Spirit has to come in.

And they captured two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued Midian and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side of the Jordan.  Judges 7:25

In this manner, we need to capture, defeat and behead the enemy so that he has no power over our lives. Let us seek spiritual insight to recognize the spiritual situation through physical manifestations so that we may specifically pray for victory.
May we diligently study the word of God and ask for the fullness of the Holy Spirit so that we may be free from the oppression of the devil to worship God.

Set my spirit free, that I might worship Thee:
Set my spirit free, that I might praise Thy Name.
Let all bondage go, and let deliverance flow:
Set my spirit free to worship Thee.

Spiritual Warfare - 14

Gideon – Judges 6

Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”  So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”  And the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.”   Judges 6:14-16

God does not wait for us till we are strong. HE strengthens us as we go. HIS strength is made perfect in my weakness. HE sends me. HE is with me as I obey. HE sends me to save Israel from the oppressor. HE assures me of great victory.

Then the Lord said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.”  So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.   Judges 6:23-24 HIS presence is Shalom.

Now it came to pass the same night that the Lord said to him, “Take your father’s young bull, the second bull of seven years old, and tear down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the wooden image that is beside it;  and build an altar to the Lord your God on top of this rock in the proper arrangement, and take the second bull and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the image which you shall cut down.”    Judges 6:25-26
Bring down the altar of Baal. Build the altar of God.

Spiritual victory before physical victory.
I need to experience personal victory before I can be used to bring national victory.

Shaping a valiant army:--

Out of the 32,000 people, 22,000 people ( About 70%) who were fearful had to leave.  Fear has to go. Only about 1% of the original army was taken for the war. These were 300 men who were whole heartedly dedicated.

It happened on the same night that the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.  But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant,  and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outpost of the armed men who were in the camp. Judges 7:9-11
The Lord understands us and helps us to overcome our fear.

And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed.”  Then his companion answered and said, “This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel! Into his hand God has delivered Midian and the whole camp.”   Judges 7:13-14
The Lord reveals to us that the enemy is in fear when he is confronted by a man or woman of God. When we see the defeat of the enemy in faith, courage rises in our hearts.

And so it was, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel, and said, “Arise, for the Lord has delivered the camp of Midian into your hand.”   Judges 7:15
When fear leaves, we are able to see the greatness of the Lord and we worship Him. Then we are able to encourage others.

Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a
trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.   Judges 7:16
We follow the Lord’s instruction and plan of action which could be quite unconventional!
Trumpet – Prayer.  Empty pitcher – Selflessness,  Torch – The light of the Holy Spirit within us. (2 Cor 4:6,7)

And he said to them, “Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do:  Judges 7:17
Gideon arises as a leader as He is led by the Lord.

When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say, ‘The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!’ ”  Judges 7:18
If my sword is the same as that of the Lord, I am assured of victory.

When the three hundred blew the trumpets, the Lord set every man’s sword against his companion throughout the whole camp; and the army fled to Beth Acacia, toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.  Judges 7:22
The Lord brought the victory when the trumpets were blown. The Lord brings us to victory when we pray. When we get the enemy unawares, he reacts. When he reacts, his character shows up. Fear, anger, murder and destruction are brought about, even within his own army! JESUS came to expose and destroy the evil works of the enemy. (Matt 12:24-26)
