Spirits
The Scriptures talk about the Holy Spirit and unclean spirits.
The Spirit of GOD is Holy and the demonic spirits are unclean.
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." ' - Revelation
Do I have a spiritual ear to hear what the Spirit of GOD says to the Churches?
The Almighty GOD anointed and sent His Son JESUS CHRIST into the world with authority to cast out demons from people and to set them free from demonic oppression. After JESUS finished His mission on earth He was taken up to heaven. He then sent His Holy Spirit to anoint and fill His disciples so that they could have the authority to cast out demons and set people free. Now He has given us authority over unclean spirits and has commanded us to set people free from demonic oppression and possession.
Life and Liberty
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. - Romans 8:1-2
The Holy Spirit gives me victory over the guilt and power of sin.
Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. - 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Love and Power
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. -
2 Timothy 1:7
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. - Romans 5:5
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23
Truth
"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. - John 16:13
Although He is a Spirit of power, He is a submissive Spirit and teaches and helps me to
submit to authority. JESUS is the Truth. His Spirit is the Spirit of Truth.
The LORD JESUS, speaking to the religious leaders who opposed Him, said,
"You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. - John 8:44
Wisdom and the Fear of GOD
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. - Isaiah 11:1-2
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." - Romans 8:15
Boldness
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. - Acts 4:31
Spirit of Intercession
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. - Romans 8:26-27
Women and the Quiet and Gently Spirit
Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel-- rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror. - 1 Peter 3:3-6
A Person full of the Holy Spirit
When my motives and attitudes are right, it is easy for the Spirit of GOD to rule and reign and thrive in my life.
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? - 1 Corinthians 3:16
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, - Ephesians 5:18
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. - Ephesians 4:30-32
A heart with a wrong attitude filled with sin is a good foothold for unclean spirits.
Unclean spirits are controlling spirits while the Holy Spirit is gentle and submissive.
Do not quench the Spirit. - 1 Thessalonians 5:19
Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? - Hebrews 10:29
As opposed to the LORD JESUS Who operated with a Spirit of grace, the scribes and pharisees displayed a legalistic religious spirit. They did not value GOD’S grace revealed through JESUS and they desired to justify themselves by keeping the law. Matt 23
I must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and obey Him. I should not grieve, quench or insult this Spirit of Grace.
Led by the Holy Spirit
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. - Romans 8:14
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, - Luke 4:1
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: - Luke 2:25-28
A Person Possessed by Unclean Spirits
"When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' "And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. "Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first." - Luke 11:24-26
When demons are cast out of a person, it is important for him to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. - Mark 5:1-5
People possessed by demon spirits are often restless.
As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, "It was never seen like this in Israel!" - Matthew 9:32-33
Demonic possessions can manifest in physical illnesses.
Saul and the Holy Spirit
"Then the Spirit of the LORD will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. "And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you. "You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do." So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day. When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them. And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw
that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, "What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?" Then a man from there answered and said, "But who is their father?" Therefore it became a proverb: "Is Saul also among the prophets?" - 1 Samuel 10:6-12
When Saul was anointed as king of Israel by Samuel the prophet, he became a different man because he was given the Holy Spirit. Saul did not obey the Holy Spirit but quenched the Spirit by becoming rebellious. Therefore the Holy Spirit departed from Saul.
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the LORD troubled him. And Saul's servants said to him, "Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you. "Let our master now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit from God is upon you, and you shall be well." So Saul said to his servants, "Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me." Then one of the servants answered and said, "Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him." Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, "Send me your son David, who is with the sheep." And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by his son David to Saul. So David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly, and he became his armorbearer. Then Saul sent to Jesse, saying, "Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight." And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him. - 1 Samuel 16:14-23
When David sinned he he cried out to GOD the following prayer:-
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. - Psalm 51:10-12
Daniel and the Holy Spirit
"There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God. And in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father--your father the king--made him chief of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. "Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation." - Daniel 5:11-12
Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. So the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful; nor was there any error or fault found in him. ... So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you." ... Now the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God. - Daniel 6:3-4, 16, 23
The Excellent Spirit in Daniel was the manifestation of the Spirit of the Holy GOD in him. GOD’S Spirit is the Spirit of light , knowledge, understanding and wisdom, that enabled him to interpret dreams, solve riddles and explain enigmas.
He manifested the Excellent Spirit by believing in his GOD, by serving GOD continually and by being faithful.
It is through the Holy Spirit that GOD saves me and leads me on to my eternal destination in my spiritual walk. Therefore I must be diligent in knowing, understanding and pleasing the Holy Spirit in my life.
"Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. - Matthew 12:31-32
