LEGION
In three of the four Gospels in the Bible, we read the story of Legion.
Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-39
The condition of Legion
This man was possessed with a legion (could be up to 6,000) of demons for a long time!
When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him,
and with a loud voice said,
and with a loud voice said,
"What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?
I beg You, do not torment me!"
Luke 8:28
This makes it clear that Legion knew that JESUS belonged to the Kingdom of Light and had authority over him.
He displays many characteristics of the kingdom of darkness.
He was drawn to dwell with dead bodies!
He was spiritually dead, being separated from GOD.
.. who had his dwelling among the tombs; Mark 5:3(a)
He could not live under a covering or live within an authority structure.
..nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. Luke 8:27

He could not be confined within a boundary line.
..because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. Mark 5:4
Legion was restless because of the destructive demonic power working against himself and others.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:5
..because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. Mark 5:4
Legion was restless because of the destructive demonic power working against himself and others.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:5
..exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. Matthew 8:28(b)
He was shameful and not protected.
..he wore no clothes.. Luke 8:27

The demons needed permission from the LORD JESUS to leave the man and enter the swine.
And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss. Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. Luke 8:31-32
The unclean spirits are attracted to dirty swine.
The force of a legion of demons sent a herd of about 2,000 swine crazy!
Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned. Luke 8:33
When JESUS stepped in the man was delivered of demons.
The people of the city were delivered of swine!
The people begged JESUS to depart from them.
And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to depart from their region. Matthew 8:34
The man begged JESUS that he might be with Him.
Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. Luke 8:38-39
JESUS had authority, which is the right to enforce obedience.
JESUS demonstrated power, which is the ability to enforce obedience.
The demons, the people of the city and the man delivered of demons begged JESUS to have their desires fulfilled.
JESUS commanded the demons to come out of the man against their desire.
JESUS permitted them to enter the swine according to their request.
JESUS left the region according to the request of the people.
JESUS did not permit the man who was delivered, to be with Him according to his desire.
JESUS sent him out as an evangelist!
