UPPER ROOM

 UPPER ROOM

We can relate the upper room to the mind of our soul.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 8:5-6

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2

We live in the upper room when we let the LORD live in the upper room of our life and let Him rule over our mind and our spirit. We will then humble ourselves before Him, respond to His convictions and His promptings. We will not be preoccupied with the things of the flesh or of 'self' but will live by faith and walk by faith.

Are you staying in the upper room or do you only visit the upper room on Sundays or when you have a need?

So when we abide in CHRIST, we no longer live in condemnation.

Thus we will live in light of eternity here and now and enjoy peace.

Is your mind at peace because your soul is submitted to the LORD and are you resting with Him in the upper room? If so, revival will take place in your heart!

 For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
"I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
To revive the spirit of the humble,
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Isaiah 57:15

The upper room speaks of effective prayer and intercession for others, resulting in miracles.

 Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him. So she said to Elijah, "What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?" And he said to her, "Give me your son." So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. Then he cried out to the Lord and said, "O Lord my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?" And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, "O Lord my God, I pray, let this child's soul come back to him." Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, "See, your son lives!"
1 Kings 17:17-23

Are you willing to give up your bed - your sleep if necessary, for the sake of others who need to be laid there and interceded for?

Stretching himself on the child indicates the impartation of specific spiritual blessings we receive from the LORD, for the one we have prayed for. This could be words of encouragement, life and faith and the release of power to work the needed miracle.

Coming down from the upper room bringing with us the answer to prayer will be the reality of the miracle that we can see, hear and touch and that will bring glory to the LORD and blessing and joy to people!

 And she said to her husband, "Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly. Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there." And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there.....

When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out....

When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord. And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. And he called Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite woman." So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, "Pick up your son."
2 Kings 4:9-11, 20-21, 32-36

 At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas.
This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.
  But it happened in those days that she became sick and died.
When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
  And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.
  Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come,
they brought him to the upper room.
And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments
which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
  But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed.
And turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise."
And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up
  Then he gave her his hand and lifted her up;
and when he had called the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
  And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.
Acts 9:36-42

What is your upper room like?

And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him. Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?" ' Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us."
Mark 14:13-15

All of us have been given the privilege of an upper room that we are responsible for. GOD has given each one of us a free will that He will not impose upon. We can furnish our upper room to be suitable for ourselves, for others or for the LORD.

Is your upper room small like that of the Shunammite woman and do thoughts of GOD and His Kingdom take a small portion of your time?

 When the hour had come,
He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.
  Then He said to them,
"With fervent desire I have desired
to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
Luke 22:14-15

If we desire to have GOD stay in our upper room, we must clean it of the dirt and dust of hurts, bitterness and unforgiveness. We must clear it of selfish and carnal thoughts. We will have to unclutter our mind of much knowledge that fill many bookshelves in the upper room! These could be books, magazines, newspapers, WhatsApp messages, emails, television programs and other social media.

Does your upper room have enough space - time, for a table for the LORD to sup with you? To develop an intimate relationship with Him through His word and prayer?

When you plan your days in the upper room of your mind, do you give space to have time for fellowship with the brethren?

The Revival of Pentecost began in the upper room

Pentecost revival is imminent when brethren are gathered in the upper room with one accord. Are our relationships carnal, soulish or spiritual? Do we relate to each other in the love of CHRIST? Do our conversations edify, encourage and build each other in the faith? Are we patient, bearing with each other in love?

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet,
which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.
And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew;
Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew;
James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot;
and Judas the son of James.

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come,
they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven,
as of a rushing mighty wind,
and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire,
and one sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 1:12-13, 2:1-4
